Excerpt:

My parents believed that women should be independent and capable. What is your thinking along those lines, Mr. Hampton?” she asked, purposely goading him.

He emitted a long-suffering sigh. “I do find a capable woman refreshing, Miss Goodwin. I have no qualms with a woman who wishes to be independent and, moreover, isn't afraid to speak her mind.”

She slid him a glance. “Indeed, I think your aunt is correct. You are a charmer.”

He shrugged. “A woman can profess to be independent in many things, but there are still times when a man’s involvement is necessary.”

“That is quite enough, Wesley Hampton,” his aunt spoke.

“Name one,” Jane fired back as she crossed her arms.

“Jane!” Isabella turned in her chair and pinned Jane with a shocked expression.

Wesley’s mouth curled into a wicked smile. He lifted his brow and set down his cup.

“A conversation left to another day

SYNOPSIS
Being pulled in different directions, Amara must choose what she wants to believe and whom she'll trust.

EXCERPT
“That’s Mr. Wolfe’s.” Lisbeth said, pointing to her left. “That’s Mr. Underwood’s, though I think it’s temporary. I don’t really know.”

“Who is Mr. Underwood?” Amara asked. She tried to keep her voice calm.

“He’s one of Mr. Wolfe’s assistants. The large accounts go through him.”

Amara swallowed and gripped on to her purse, trying to keep her head from spinning. It was only a name.

“What’s his name?” she asked, despite herself.

Lisbeth stopped walking and turned to her, confused. “Excuse me?”

“Mr. Underwood. What’s his name?”

If a pin dropped during the pause, Amara would hear it and point exactly where it fell, that’s how anxious she felt.

“Brandon…” Lisbeth said, her brows crinkling. “Do you know him?”

She shook her head lightly and cleared her throat. “Nope. Just sounded familiar.”

Lisbeth shrugged and turned back around, pointing at the desk in the center of the room. “This is your desk.”

“That would be correct,” she heard Colin say behind them. Amara closed her eyes momentarily, until the heat that his voice produced began to wash away. “I’ll take it from here, Liz. Thank you.”

“My pleasure, Mr. Wolfe,” Lisbeth responded as she walked back to the elevator. “Let me know if you want to do lunch, Amara.”

“I will. Thank you.” Amara smiled, turning around to watch her go, though she refused to look at Colin head on.

“Perhaps another day, Liz. Amara needs to accompany me to my lunch meeting today at twelve. Please remind me fifteen minutes prior.”

“Sure thing.”

The elevator closed and Amara finally tore her eyes from it to look at Colin. He was running his tongue between his teeth as he assessed her body and her face.

“You look…” His eyes traveled down her body one last time before he cleared his throat. “Very professional. Let’s get started.”

Amara frowned and shook her head. She knew what he wanted to say, she could see the desire flickering in his eyes as he stared at her, but she played along. Amara pivoted around and swayed her hips a little more exaggerated than usual as she rounded the desk and sat in the chair. When she looked up, Colin was still standing in the same spot. Coincidentally, the suit he wore matched her skirt. It fit him as if it was made for him. He always bought the athletic fit tailor that hugged his strong back and arms. Colin’s dark gaze was glued to her as he strode over to her.

“Did you get a chance to see my office?” he asked casually as he walked toward it.

“Nope.”

“Well, come take a look. You’ll have to know where the files go when you bring them to me, in case I’m on the phone or not here.”

Amara pressed down on her heels and stood, following him into the large corner office. She brushed past him, directly to the floor to ceiling windows and looked for her apartment building. She was sure she could see everything from there.

“It’s a beautiful view.”

“It is,” he agreed. She heard his chair sliding against the hardwood and let herself enjoy the view for a moment longer. He was looking at her when she turned around to face him.

“So, the files.”

“Yeah, the files,” he said, placing his hand on the right side of his desk. “I want them here. Anything I sign and is ready to be sent out, I’ll put on this side.” He signaled the left side of his desk. “I don’t think you can fuck that up.”

Biting her tongue, she looked away from him, back to the city, and reminded herself to breathe. “I think I’ll be fine. Anything else?”

“You’ll be in charge of my schedule. You’re on call all the time, anything I need you’ll have to take care of.”

She cut her eyes to him. “How did I end up here?”

“I shelled out a fuck load of money, that’s how.”

Four Stars

“You only have one night left. Take a chance…”

Jase and Nickie have always viewed themselves as off-limits to each other. Nickie is the older sister to Jase’s best friend. They’ve known each other for a very long time. Their attraction for each other has been building for years. Now Jase has graduated college and will soon begin his military career as a US Marine. He will be deploying soon, so they only have one night to explore their feelings, their passions, and their heart’s desire.

This is my first time reading one of Caridad Pineiro’s stories. I am now a fan! I loved what she did with this novella surrounding the “Take a chance” theme. Nickie has always been the good girl. It is unusual for her to take a chance. Jase also held back on acting on his feelings out of respect for his best friend. When the opportunity arises…oh boy! All I will say is that the heat level is WOWZA in capital letters! Yep!

If you’re in the mood for something short, sweet, and ultra-steamy, take a chance on Just One Night! Apparently, this is the first in the series. The next story will be about Nickie’s brother.  Yay! I can’t wait to see whom Tommy takes a chance on!

Four Stars

After his teammate plants the idea, Border Patrol agent, Marcus Lucero, starts browsing a sexcam site where he meets Tova Sorenson.  Their virtual meeting was actually adorable and well done. An instant friendship is born.  I liked how the sexcam website was just a window to more pressing matters that would come later, like situations that tear families apart, and that I know are very real. Tova has a brother who she desperately wants to help. Both Tova and Marcus are hard working people. I was immediately drawn to their characters and couldn’t stop turning the pages to see what would happen. In the midst of danger and suspense, their actual meeting turns into a blazing inferno. Oh yes, there’s lots of fun innuendo and dirty talking involved!

Joan Swan has written another fast-paced, action-packed, sexy novella in the Covert Affairs series! It was nice to see a little of Rio (Intimate Enemies) and Zoe (First Temptation) as well. I love this series, and I’m so glad to have finally had the chance to read the most recent installment.

I write what I like to read: romantic suspense. I also write for the same reasons I read–entertainment and escape.
Recently, I left my day job as a sonographer at UCSF Medical Center after 22 years in the field to write full time. Five Stars

The Letter is a novella gem! Sergeant Rick Week seeks out Hattie Jameson with a very heavy heart. He has to deliver a letter…

“Every solder wrote that letter. The missive that would be sent should the worst happen.”

I’m not going to lie. Since this is a novella, sparks fly right away between Rick and Hattie, but what I love about The Letter is that Mina Carter puts so much heart in the way she tells their story. These are two people who have experienced something so tragic, with Billy, Hattie’s fiancé and Rick’s friend, as the common bond between the two.  Rick and Hattie meet at a time in both their lives where the possibility of love is good. Time has passed, the pain has healed a bit and now they deserve to be with someone special. The emotions were described so realistically, my gosh! The stuff that went down with Rick and Billy put my heart through the wringer. Mina Carter also made me believe in Rick and Hattie’s romance that I cried happy tears! This story touched my heart in every way.

Did I mention that Rick is Scottish? Oh, yes, he is! He’s traveled a long way from home. I also loved how this story relates to the calendar mentioned in the series.

“Are ye sure about this, lass? Once I put you down,” color branded his cheeks, “I’ll no’ be able to stop.”

Set around the Fourth of July in the US, The Letter is a perfect fast-paced, romantic, steamy read for the summer, or any time of year, really! If you’re a fan of romance novellas with military heroes, then you absolutely need to meet Sergeant Rick Week…Mr. July! Loved, loved, loved!!!

The Calendar Men Blog:
All the stories in the Calendar Men series are standalone, steamy novellas.

About the author
Mina was born and raised in the East Farthing of Middle Earth (otherwise known as the Midlands, England) and spend her childhood learning all the sorts of things generally required of a professional adventurer. Able to ride, box, shoot, make and read maps, make chainmail and use a broadsword (with varying degrees of efficiency) she was disgusted to find that adventuring is not considered a suitable occupation these days.

So, instead of slaying dragons and hunting vampires and the like, Mina spends her days writing about hot shifters, government conspiracies and vampire lords with more than their fair share of RAWR. Turns out wanna-be adventurers have quite the turn of imagination after all...

(But she keeps that sword sharp, just in case the writing career is just a dream and she really *is* an adventurer.)

The boring part: A full time author and cover artist, Mina can usually be found hunched over a keyboard or graphics tablet, frantically trying to get the images and words in her head out and onto the screen before they drive her mad. She's addicted to coffee and would like to be addicted to chocolate, but unfortunately chocolate dislikes her.
