Book Trailer Reveal - The Replacement by Rachael Wade

Publication date: January 27th 2014
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult

Synopsis:
*Contains sexually explicit content and mature subject matter, including language and elements of abuse.*

A gritty New Adult drama about a young woman’s self-destructive quest to find purpose, self-worth, and love in a broken world.

My name is Elise Duchamp. I’m twenty-three years old and I’m known as the town whore.

No, not the kind who exchanges sexual favors for money. The other kind. The kind who gives it all away for free, whenever and however she likes. I am that girl. The one everyone whispers about and the one none of the girls seem to like, because all of their boyfriends either want to sleep with me or already have. Promiscuity is my thing—the kind that slowly, violently turns my insides black, but gives me something I need.

All things considered, I’m not completely reckless. I’m safe, and contrary to popular opinion, I do have a heart. I live in a world of careless choices, and with those choices come careless people. I cannot judge them, because I am one of them. I too bow down to the altar of the self-serving. I am not a good friend. I am not and never could be anyone’s girlfriend. I’m convinced any goodness in me shriveled up and died long ago.

But I am a replacement. That is something I know how to be, and this is a story of the lengths I’d go to in order to keep it that way.

4.5 Stars!!!

Hell, I should give it 5+ just for the cover alone!!

I can’t begin to tell you how much I have LOVED the G-Men series and Night Moves is just as wonderful. You may be wondering then why it got 4.5 stars from me and that, my friends, lies solely on the gorgeous broad shoulders of Easy E himself!! That’s right, I really didn’t like him very much until a little over half way through!! Now before you all boo me right out of here, let me just say I LOVED him by the end and it’s all good, and this is simply one chicks opinion!! Seriously, go forth and LOVE Easton!! Seriously!!

Now, I’m not saying his dirty talkin’ alpha-ness didn’t make my girl parts quiver ALL through this book, I just thought that he was kind of an A-hole for awhile. Maybe if we had more chapters from Easton’s POV and got to be in his head a little more than I would have felt a bit more connected to him, but oh well, no biggie, because when all is said and done I loved this one just as much as the other delicious G-Men!!

Now, I liked Darcy right off, she was a little bit of a spoiled only child, but she owned it! She knew that about herself and when faced with the challenge of proving herself in her dads company, now merged with Easton’s, she totally rose to the occasion!! Even having to fight the insane attraction to her new boss, (Easton, not her dad!). I really enjoyed watching not only Darcy evolve, but Easton too as well as them as a couple. They had a bumpy journey but isn’t that what makes it fun!!

This book was my favorite kind of indulgence, complete with a dirty mouthed, half British, alpha, OMG with a piercing no less!!! You all know how I love the piercings!(sorry, got a little sidetracked) And a feisty heroine who rocks all on her own! Crazy, hot sex with a little light BDSM thrown in for good measure and some really great secondary characters!! This book, hell this entire series, rocks my world HARD!! If you haven’t had the chance to dive in and spend time with these characters I am telling you to get on it! They are amazing!!!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to Andrea Smith for providing me this delicious ARC for my reading pleasure!!!

*new adult romance*

**explicit scenes and language**

I don’t care what my cousin says; I am not the queen of impossible relationships. I mean, just because my last boyfriend tried to kill me and left a bit of a scar on my neck, then forced me to move across the country and legally change my name to Reese Randall to escape him, does not mean—

Oh, who am I kidding? For a freshman in college, I have to have the worst dating track record ever.

It’s no wonder love is the last thing on my mind when Mason Lowe enters my life. But the chemistry between us is like bam! Our connection defies logic. And he’s just so freaking hot. Being around him makes me feel more alive than I’ve ever felt before. I even like bickering with him. He could be my soul mate...except for one teeny tiny glitch.

He's a gigolo.

Boy, do I know how to pick them.
3.5-3.75 Stars

“Every woman treats me that way, Reese. I’m not a person to them. I’m just…a good time or something vile to be avoided at all costs. And then you came along and you…you hugged me. You are the first person who sees me, Mason, not sex for sale."

I can never turn down gigolo stories. Hence why I wanted to read this as soon as possible. The synopsis immediately grabbed my attention. I knew going in that this was not going to be a typical, straight forward romance. Oh no. There were a whole lot of other things in the mix. This was definitely interesting read.

“Sometimes it’s more about the quality than the quantity that counts.”

Reese has the worst track record when it comes to men. I mean her last boyfriend did try to kill her. Now she’s in hiding waiting for his trial to begin. He’s one very determined stalker. Now she’s miles away from her home, attending a new school. Luckily she is staying with her cousin so at least she has some support. On her very first day, she immediately notices Mason. How could you not? He’s very attractive, very sexy and apparently very unattainable. Why? Because rumor has it that he’s a gigolo. Ah, her luck just continues.

“I could never deserve you. You’re too good for me. You’re out of my reach.”

Mason did not want this life, but circumstances in his life lead him to this path. We find out how he got involved in the very beginning of the book. And for the record, that prologue was hard for me to read. It was downright cringe-worthy. Poor Mason. He was stuck between a rock and hard place when he fell down that path. What else could he do? He needed to take care of his mother and his little sister Sarah, who in addition has Cerebral Palsy. Responsibilities just keep piling up. And things just get even more complicated when Reese enters his life. He wants her, but knows he can’t have her, not while he’s still doingthat. Ugh. This is such a cluster fuck.

“You’re the warm sun that shines when everything else is dark,” he went on, lifting his hands to rest them against the wall on either side of face. “A smile and a hug in a roomful of disapproval. You’re…” Wincing, he pressed his forehead against mine. “You’re everything.”
A single tear trickled down my cheek. My smile trembled with effort. “I love you too.”

Eventually Reese and Mason become friends - close, flirty friends, mind you. Lines get blurred, but both remain adamant to not cross it. I really liked seeing their friendship blossom, and it kept the story interesting. I admired Mason’s control and would even go as far as calling him admirable. As for Reese…well, it took me a long time to get use to her. She was incredibly superficial in the beginning and it took a while for her character to develop. I did love their flirty moments, but as the story went on, I felt myself getting antsy. I wanted something to happen. I mean COME ON! Ugh. Anyway, the first 70% was me waiting for them to finally get it and when they finally did, BOOM! Something happens and I was left shocked. I understood where Mason came from and the reasoning behind his actions, but that does not mean I liked it…at all! It completely rubbed me the wrong way, offended the hell out of me and left a horrible taste in my mouth. I just couldn’t get over it….hence, the less than four-star rating. Anyway, I did like the majority of this book, and it was a good story, but that thing was just...wrong. Grr!

Hard As It Gets (Hard Ink #1) by Laura Kaye ~ ARC Review

Tall, dark, and lethal...

Trouble just walked into Nicholas Rixey's tattoo parlor. Becca Merritt is warm, sexy, wholesome--pure temptation to a very jaded Nick. He's left his military life behind to become co-owner of Hard Ink Tattoo, but Becca is his ex-commander's daughter. Loyalty won't let him turn her away. Lust has plenty to do with it too.

With her brother presumed kidnapped, Becca needs Nick. She just wasn't expecting to want him so much. As their investigation turns into all-out war with an organized crime ring, only Nick can protect her. And only Becca can heal the scars no one else sees.

Desire is the easy part. Love is as hard as it gets. Good thing Nick is always up for a challenge...

Tattoos, Suspense, Lots of Testosterone!

When I found out Laura Kaye was writing a brand new series that included tattoos and suspense, I might have jumped up and down a little...OK....I jumped up and down a LOT!!! The first time I read the book summary, I knew right away this book was going to be right up my alley. I love reading romance novels where the hero has a military background as well. Combine that with a capable heroine who finds herself in a dangerous situation, and this makes for one irresistible story!

One of the things I enjoyed about Hard As It Gets, is that it is set primarily in and around a tattoo shop, and it's not all just for show! Nick co-owns Hard Ink Tattoo with his brother Jeremy. For those who love the art of tattooing, there are a few scenes dedicated to designing and tattooing, which I found very fascinating. There's a great deal of brotherly love going on, too. Jeremy is quite the character! He will surely make you giggle and smile.

The mystery and suspense centers mainly around Becca trying to find her brother, and she seeks Nick's help. It becomes apparent right away that Nick will need some major assistance. When backup arrives, wowza! There's a lot of testosterone flying around! Holy hotness of Alpha-heroes! Although there's an HEA, the plot will segue beautifully into the next book, and believe me, you'll be craving book 2 (Hard As You Can) right away.

I continue to enjoy Laura Kaye's stories because she tends to write likable and meaningful characters. I love how the characters often end up surprising themselves and fall HARD for each other despite their individual inner turmoil, Becca and Nick included. Becca is the kind of woman who knows what she wants and goes for it. No matter how hard he resists, Nick can't help himself from being the one to protect her from all harm. The attraction is inevitable. The sexual tension runs sky high. If you've read Ms. Kaye's other stories, you know things can get downright explosive.

I am wound too tight, Becca. Do you understand? In about ten seconds, I'm going to be all over you. And I'm not going to be able to go slow. It's gonna be hard and fast and rough.” pg. 130 paperback ARC

Perhaps my favorite aspect of this story is the camaraderie of the group. The bonds of friendship and family is prominent providing a solid base as a first-in-a-series book. I love the rush one gets when reading an edgy romantic-suspense novel. I devoured this book completely! Plenty of steam, action, mystery and HOT men! I will definitely go along for the ride as this series unfolds.

*This book contains mature subject matter and is not intended for those under 17 years of age.*
Four Stars

“We will get through this, together. You and I. Nothing will break us, ever. Not this. Do you hear me, Jess? Nothing. We’re unbreakable.”

I saw a lot of great reviews of this one and I figured, what the hey?! So I picked it up and honestly had a hard time putting it down. If it wasn’t for work, I would’ve finished it in one setting. I just adore friends-to-lovers stories and this was a very good example of one.

“I can’t remember a time when I haven’t loved you. You have been a part of my life for over fourteen years. When you were younger, it was different kind of love, but now, it’s the kind of love that won’t let me breathe if you’re not with me. It’s the kind of love that makes me not want to live if I can’t be with you.”

Jess & Gabe Garcia have been friends for a long time. They’ve practically grown up together considering Gabe’s sister is Jess’ best friend plus tack on the fact that Jess practically lives at the Garcia household. However as they grow older, their feelings morph into something more serious. They don’t do a very good job at hiding their relationship, especially around their family and friends, but that’s ok, their relationship was inevitable. They fall in love – hard and fast – for each other and nothing seemed to stop them from having their HEA. However tragedy strikes and rips their relationship apart. After the event, Jess moves away leaving Gabe (and herself) in a total shambles. They both try to move on, but their connection is strong. This is a true test of their relationship, but will they pass?

“Never be afraid to feel. It’s the only way to really live.”

I really enjoyed this story, especially the dual POV (I LOVE duel POVs!). This was emotional and some scenes even made my eyes water and my heart ache. The story was well paced and yes, there is some steam. What even made this story better is that I just found out there will be another book in the series starring Landon! I’m not going into specifics on who Landon is in this story because I don’t want to give too much away. Just know that I LOVED his character. He was such a wonderful addition to the story and I’m just counting down the days until his book comes out. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a very good NA story.
