I didn’t think it was possible but the I-Team books just get better and better!!
When I met Laura and Javier a few weeks ago in First Strike I was instantly in love, or maybe it was lust because that was one hot story. But that was just the beginning! Striking Distance was fantastic!
This book picks up about 2 years after First Strike with Javier’s Seal Team heading in to take out the bastard that he believes killed Laura when she was kidnapped two years earlier, only to find her alive and being held captive as one of his wives. She found the courage to escape with them but she had no idea it was Javier who was her savior.
We jump to almost two years later and Laura is testifying against her captor and putting her life back together. When he openly threatens her in court nobody really takes it seriously until the attempts on her life begin.
At this point Javier is supposed to recuperating at the ranch with Nate since he was critically injured and barely escaped with his life a short time before. A barbeque at Nate’s brings Laura and Javi back together again and this time there is no way either of them are walking away. Javi takes on the role of her personal bodyguard for Laura and helps her heal all the way and keep her alive as well. All the while they are falling more and more in love. But Laura has a secret that she fears no one will understand or be able to forgive her for. She can’t even forgive herself.
In perfect I-Team fashion the whole team pitches in to help and it makes for one hell of a great story! It was so wonderful to spend time with all of the previous I-Team characters! This is another story with perfect blend of romance and suspense and I loved every single minute!!

After reading First
Strike, the very steamy prequel to Striking Distance
where Laura and Javier first meet in Dubai, I was left wanting,
needing, grasping for more, since it ends in a really HUGE
cliffhanger! I had a feeling Striking Distance was going to be
emotionally gripping with a powerful story, and Pamela Clare truly
did not disappoint!
Laura and Javier, both having gone through separate painful ordeals since parting ways in Dubai, are in many ways different individuals from when they first met. Both are hurting. Both are in the process of healing when they reunite. The one thing that is certain is that they never stopped longing for each other. While First Strike was all hot & heavy and full of explosive chemistry, Striking Distance slows things down a bit. Pamela Clare has written a passionate, heated romance for Javier and Laura having them connect on an intense and emotionally deep level. In the midst of it all, the action, danger, and I-Team characters that we all love are still present.
As a big romantic suspense fan, Pamela Clare's I-Team series ranks pretty high as some of my ultimate favorites. I applaud Ms. Clare for writing such a compelling and intricate storyline that not only surrounds constant threat, but also healing, compassion, sacrifice, and endearing love. Be sure to have tissues ready!

Having read the previous books, Striking Distance is my first I-Team audiobook. I had heard that the I-Team audiobooks were very popular, and now I know why. The narrator, Kaleo Griffith, does an amazing job providing voices for all the characters and bringing scenes and emotions to life. Javier is Puerto Rican, and the voice provided for him is deep, smooth and sensual. I quite enjoyed it every time Javi referred to Laura as “bella” (pronounced “BAY-yah” in Spanish). The voices for the other I-Team heroes seem fitting too. I want to go back now and listen to the series just for an entirely different experience.

The story of Laura and Javier can certainly be read as standalone. Their story begins in the novella First Strike and continues in Striking Distance. These two stories pretty much go hand in hand.
