Bad Romeo by Leisa Rayven ARC Review

Title: Bad Romeo
Author: Leisa Rayven
Series: The Starcrossed Series #1
Release Date: December 23, 2014

Synopsis:
When Cassie Taylor met Ethan Holt at acting school, sparks flew. She was the good girl actress. He was the bad boy about campus. But one fated casting choice for Romeo and Juliet changed it all. Like the characters they were playing, Cassie and Ethan's romance seemed destined. Until he broke her heart and betrayed her trust. Now the A-list heartthrob is back in her life and turning her world around. One touch at a time.

Cast as romantic leads once again, they're forced to confront raw memories of the heartbreaking lows and pulse-pounding highs of their secret college affair. But they'll also discover that people who rub each other the wrong way often make the best sparks.

Five Stars

WOW!!! LOVED THIS ONE....It was like 250 pages of really intense foreplay!!

Honestly, this was the second book in a row that I read that had no sex until the very end. I kinda loved that about it!!

Cassie and Ethan had such a love/hate/lust thing at times my head was spinning. I am not sure what it was but this was one of those stories that you felt so much for both characters that you really wanted the HEA for them. No worries, I promise you'll get there but it is a long, exhausting, sexually frustrating ride!

I think my favorite parts were when they did plays together, so hot!! I loved it all but the play scenes were super sexy!!

Ok, so we're really doing this. A sex scene between a virgin and the man who hates that he wants her. Should be fun.

I got this great book from Netgalley and thought it sounded good, but I love when I stumble upon a gem like this. I can't wait for book two and I highly recommend it to pretty much everyone!

Writing has always been a passion for Leisa, and even though she originally intended to be an actress, it wasn’t long into her time at drama school that she began writing plays.
Those plays were bad. Very bad. Well, her friends thought they were good, but that’s because they were always cast in them and any opportunity to be on stage was met with an obnoxious amount of enthusiasm.
Since then, she’s honed her craft, and several of her plays have been produced and toured throughout Australia.
These days, playwriting has given way to fiction writing, and Leisa’s debut novel, BAD ROMEO, will be available in a worldwide release through Macmillan Publishing in December 2014.
Leisa lives in Australia with her husband, two little boys, three cats, and a kangaroo named Howard. (Howard may or may not be her imaginary marsupial friend. Everyone should have one.)

Blog Tour ~ Sugar's Twice as Sweet by Marina Adair Top 5 + Giveaway

I'm super excited to be a part of this blog tour!
Congratulations to Marina Adair on her latest book release!
Today we have a guest post, excerpt and the tour-wide giveaway.
Enjoy!

Marina Adair's
Top 5 favorite "Southern" things
#5. The food. Everything is smoked, BBQ, fried, or coated in gravy—including most vegetables, except mac-and-cheese. Yup, only in the South is that cheese goodness considered a vegetable on most restaurant menus.

#4. Grannies. Having grown up with two I can attest that Southern grannies rule. My Grandma Stowell made the best buttermilk biscuits on the planet, knew how to hug you until the world felt safe, understood the importance of masterful storytelling, and always put the fear of God in you with phrases like, “Honey, you’re going to split hell wide open and fall in with that kind of lie.”

#3. Can we talk biscuits? I know food already made an appearance on list, and we have mentioned biscuits, but when made right, these beautiful, fluffy little slices of heaven can be life altering. Add a little honey or homemade bumble berry jam and it is a religious experience.

#2. Country Music. All I need to say is, Eric Church’s Love you Like Wrecking Ball. Listen to that song and try not to swoon, I dare you.

#1. Southern Gents. Oh, ladies, there is nothing sexier than a sweet talking, down-home southern man in shit kickers and worn jeans who flattens his vowels when he speaks, know how to treat a lady, and doesn’t hesitate to go after what he wants.

Thank you, Marina, for stopping by! Y'all need to listen to that Eric Church song, because it will make you swoon! ~Grace

Excerpt
Three days later, Josephina shoved the last scrap of wallpaper into the trash bag and knew it was quitting time. Her arms were sore from scraping off glue, which was littering the wood floor, she had a big bruise on her forehead from running into Brett’s elbow—and sharing breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a man who made her motor hum only added to her aches.
True to his word, he had asked her out every day. And every day it became harder to say no.
Today had been the worst, she thought as she watched the play of Brett’s muscles while he supported a plank of rotted wood over his head. He was all rippled and gorgeous and flashing that orgasm-inducing smile. The one that curled up slightly at the corners, saying he’d caught her drooling. Again.
“A simple yes is all it would take,” he said in that southern-boy way that made her heart warm. Along with some other, more pertinent, parts.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” She stepped sideways, right into a bowl of nails, knocking them over. Then, blaming Brett for taking up too much damn space, she picked up the handsaw off the floor and reached into her back pocket for a pair of gloves—coming up empty.
“I’ve got an extra pair in my tool belt,” he said with humor in his voice as he jerked his chin toward his goodie bag, um, tool belt. “Right there in the center pocket. You see them?”
Oh, she saw them all right. She also saw how incredibly amused he was.
“Don’t move.” Eyeing him, she cautiously reached into the pocket, careful not to touch any of his tools. She grabbed the leather gloves and jerked her hand back.
Doing her best to ignore his laughing, she crawled up to the fifth rung of the ladder and sawed away the remaining few inches of beam. Between the sexy smiles and “accidental” brushing of bodies, Brett kept her in a constant state of unbalance.
“So to clarify, you’re saying you don’t want to go out with me,” he mused.
She sighed, sawing through the end of the beam and wondering why she kept repeating herself. “Dating wouldn’t be a good idea.”
“Why is that?” he asked, lowering the beam to the floor.
This time she was certain he was flexing his arms on purpose.
“Because we’d go out, have a good time, come home, and have sex. Only instead of just amazing no-strings sex it would be complicated by all this other stuff, which would make things weird. Eventually I’d be short one contractor, miss my opening date, and wonder what happened.”
Not wanting to look at him, she set the saw on the top of the ladder, ready to move to the next spot.
“First off, I’m in this for the long haul, I gave you my word on that.”
Josephina turned around to ask him if he was talking about the inn, but then she forgot how to speak. Brett blocked her descent, climbing up behind her to the second rung, which brought him eye level. He gripped her hips and backed her up against the ladder. “And, sugar, sex between us wouldn’t be amazing, it would be earth-shattering.”
That’s what I’m afraid of.
He sculpted his hands down her sides to her thighs, paying extra attention to her bottom on the trip back. She rested her hands on those biceps she’d been watching all week so she wouldn’t fall over as the air whooshed out of her lungs.
Hell, she’d suffered from severe oxygen deprivation since the minute she found him this morning, standing on the front porch, latte in one hand, a cheese Danish in the other, and the sun cresting behind him.
The man redefined “sexy contractor.” The faded college T-shirt clung to his impressive chest. And the hotter it got, the clingier the material became. Which was why four o’clock was Josephina’s new favorite time of day. It was when Brett shucked his shirt. And the tool belt he wore weighed down his jeans, giving her a prime view of chiseled abs and lean hips, and highlighting his yummy parts.
And that wasn’t even the most tempting part. Nope. The more she saw Brett as a normal hot guy, the more the never-going-to-date-him rule seemed to blur, and the harder he became to resist.
“I suck at relationships,” she rushed out, more for her than him. “I get so lost in the other person that Josephina goes MIA. I can’t do that again. Not now when people are counting on me. When I’m counting on me.”
“It’s just a date, Joie. I’m not down on one knee.” He sounded so sincere her heart pounded as if he were.
“Date implies the start of something, and you’re leaving.” And if I let you, you might take my heart with you when you go. “And I’m staying here, in Sugar.”
With a single nod, Brett let her slide past him on the ladder.

He wasn’t giving up, not by a long shot, she could see that in his eyes. But he was letting it go—for now.

“A gentleman would get to know you patiently, intimately, before demanding anything of your body. Tonight, I’m not going to be a gentleman.”
For wealthy British surgeon Isaac Kimball, being the good guy comes naturally. Caring for Chicago’s poorest fills his days and keeps his other side—the dark one that craves sensuality and control—at bay. Excerpt
"In my office. It's right there." He nodded to the door down the hall, already moving that way, but she didn’t move.
"There's nothing to say."
Oh, there was plenty.
Isaac slid her glasses off her face with one finger as adrenaline and heat pumped through him. Her chin tipped up, and he knew he was being an ass. But he had questions, things to say, and she had answers and she was going to listen no matter if she wanted to or not. If he didn't get things off his chest, he wouldn't be able to concentrate on anything else for the rest of the day.
"In. My. Office."
Mila glared at him for several seconds before doing as he asked. He followed, slipping out of his lab coat as he shut the door behind them.
"Let me guess. You want to backpedal over the crap you said to me at DeJava, right? Cover your ass? Well, don't worry about it. I'm forgetting it ever happened." She held a hand out for her glasses.
He gave them over. That's what he wanted, too, right? To put the bet behind him, laugh it off and move on? He had other things to talk about, like Luis and the mark on her arm. Anything but the bet right now.
But impulse was a blasted thing and his brain had other ideas. "I'm not forgetting anything.”  Once he'd said it, he knew where he was headed. Where he had to be headed, because beyond her hunger the other day, someone had hurt her.
"It's a legitimate experiment, one we'd both benefit from winning. Not us, actually, but the children. Considering how much Luis means to you, I'm sure you agree that it's worth a shot."
She huffed a breath.
He was playing dirty but Isaac couldn't bring himself to be sorry. "It's true what I said. I'm offering you the chance to be someone else for a while, Mila, whatever that might mean to you. It's yours."
She shuddered hard, her palm going to her forehead. "You're asking me to be your… I won't be your hooker."
"I told you that intimacy isn't involved in this, and I meant it. There's no attraction between us anyway." That sounded wrong even as he said it because there was something that caused a thrum in his blood each time she was near. Probably just a case of reining himself in too long.
She pressed her knuckles to her lips. Surprised by her lack of ninja-tendencies, considering he'd all but forced her in here, Isaac had to smile. She was contemplating, just as he was, letting it roll around in her head like it was rolling around in his.
"Right. You're right. There isn't anything sexual between us." Her shrug was less than convincing.
"No." Not completely true.
"But…" She was waffling, and the more the yes-no flickered across her face, the more a dark agitation grew in him.
Isaac grabbed her sleeve and yanked her gently forward, causing her to press into him with a soft grunt.
"Do you need proof?" he asked.
Her chest stalled, her hands balling in fists against his chest. "Do you?"
Mila's shuddering breath was the last sound he registered as he brought his lips to hers, demanding, harder than he'd intended. Her taste engulfed him, unfamiliar sweetness flaming his blood. Her soft lips parted but not nearly enough; her body stiffened before she leaned into him, giving but not giving completely.
"Open your mouth for me, Mila."
Her arms came up around his neck, pulling him down. Elation flew through him as her mouth opened completely and urged him in for a deep, slanted kiss. His tongue slid along hers as sensation blossomed everywhere—racing along his scalp, his chest. Mila's fingernails pricked against his skin, leaving tingling, burning rows.
Isaac inhaled deeply and bit down softly on her lower lip. She was taking as much as he was demanding—a tug of war. Unexpected but goddamn delicious. And she had no idea what he'd demand of her if they took this further. If the fire in her kiss was an indication, she might demand just as much from him, a twist to the way sex usually went for him… but he'd test it. He'd allow it, and he'd probably lose his mind in the process.
This was more than basic chemistry.
This was hands-down sexual attraction.

Five Stars

When I first read the summary for The Mistress Experiment, I knew I had to read it.  I’m always game for a steamy read involving a HOT doctor, and the hero in this one is also British, so win-win for me.

What I LOVED most about this story is how both Mila and Isaac are such strong characters that go way beyond the “he’s rich, she’s poor” element. Their personalities are complimentary, and they are both selfless individuals who want to work towards a common goal. Dr. Isaac Kimball is a pediatric surgeon at a county hospital in Chicago. Mila DePardo works as a volunteer at the same hospital. They both care for and adore the children there, and, as it turns out, will do anything to keep a particular program funded. The good doctor proposes an arrangement to Mila, and when she accepts to be his mistress, the experiment begins!

The proposition/arrangement aspect of the story is fun and intriguing! While Ms. Otto kept the sexual attraction between Isaac and Mila oozing with heat and scenes super steamy, I just adored how she built their romance. Despite all the obstacles these two faced, I cheered them on right from the beginning. I ended up caring for them so much that my heart tugged all the more near the end.

Elizabeth Otto is a new-to-me author. I’m happy to say that I’m glad I took a chance on this story. This is the first book in a new series. A few characters were introduced that were quite interesting and sort of mysterious to me. I’m hoping we’ll learn more about Isaac’s cousins in the sequels!

Elizabeth Otto Bio:
Elizabeth Otto grew up in a Wisconsin town the size of a postage stamp, where riding your horse to the grocery store, and skinny dipping after school were perfectly acceptable. No surprise that she writes about small communities and country boys. She's the author of paranormal and hot, emotional, contemporary romance, and has no guilt over frequently making her readers cry. When not writing, she works full-time as an Emergency Medical Technician for a rural ambulance service. Elizabeth lives with her very own country boy and their three children in, shockingly, a small Midwestern town.
