BLURB
There’s a single defining moment within every skater.
It lasts only a second. Two if you're good.
Three if you’re really good.
It’s the moment you’re in the air, your board somewhere beneath you, and nothing but wind surrounds you.
It’s the feeling of being airborne.
The sixteen-year-old version of me would’ve said it was the greatest feeling in the world.
Then at seventeen, I had my son.
And every single second became a defining moment. Even the ones that consisted of heartbreak when his mother left us.
Seventeen. Single. Dad.
That’s what my life became.
Yet, every day, I managed to find that feeling of being airborne.
Or at least I convinced myself I did.
But I lied—to myself and to everyone around me.
Until she showed up; Tanned skin, raven dark hair, and eyes the color of emeralds.
You know what sucks about being in the air?
Coming down from the high.
Sometimes you land on the board and nail the trick.
Then kick, push, and coast away.
Other times you fall.
You fall hard.
And those are the times when it’s not as easy to get back up, dust off your pads and try again.
Especially when the girl with the emerald eyes becomes your drug...
And you become her poison.
breathtaking
adjective: breathtaking;
adjective: breath-taking
astonishing or awe-inspiring in quality, so as to take one's breath away. "the scene was one of breathtaking beauty"
It is the only word that comes close to describing Kick Push and even still, it doesn’t do it justice. Jay McLean exceeded all expectations anyone had for this book by far being her best work to date. I laughed, I cried, I laughed some more, my heart broke and I swooned hard. If you have read any of Jay’s other books you will understand what I mean when I say it was everything Jay McLean and so much more. Just...breathtaking.

Joshua 'firetruck' Warden
- "I'm pregnant". Not exactly two words any 17 year old guy wants to hear
from his girlfriend am I right? Well it happened to Josh Warden and little did
he know he wasn't only becoming a father to a beautiful little boy named Tommy,
but he was also going to be a single parent. Shortly after Tommy is born Josh
is left to raise Tommy alone and to make things even harder he had to do it
without the support of family. He was alone in every sense of the word. At his
lowest point Josh is shown that not everybody sucks and is taken in by a
saintly stranger, a woman who seen his struggle and held out her hand giving him
a place he could call home for him and his son and things were looking up. For
the next two years Josh does what needs to be done, he leaves school; he gives
up his passion of skateboarding so he can work full time, all to give Tommy the
best life he could. He works, he comes home, and he spends time with Tommy.
That is his life. Nothing else mattered; until she comes along.
“There
are some sacrifices greater than love. And some loves greater than any
sacrifice. Tommy’s
greater than both.”
Becca – Dealt a crappy
hand at life. I can’t say too much about her without giving anything away but
growing up wasn’t easy for her but when she moves in with her grandmother, the
beautiful lady who took Josh and Tommy in as her own, and her life changes
forever. It wasn’t all about Josh and Becca and their connection even though it
was fierce and beautiful to read, what I fell in love with Becca’s connection
with Tommy and how much Tommy adored her.
“You’re doing an amazing job. Tommy – he gives me the courage to push on. You know... After I kick.”
If you want laughter, you get here. If you want tears, you get it here. If you want a love so fierce it hurts, you get it here. This book has everything a book needs. The connection between all these characters, not just Josh and Becca, warms my heart and give me hope. What more could you ask for? You will not find a better book then this one right here.
Kick. Push. Coast.
