Title: ALPHA
Author: Jasinda Wilder
Release Date: April 29, 2014
Self-published
Synopsis:
The first time it happened, it seemed like an impossible miracle. Bills were piling up, adding up to more money than I could ever make. Mom's hospital bills. My baby brother's tuition. My tuition. Rent. Electricity. All of it on my shoulders. And I had just lost my job. There was no hope, no money in my account, no work to be found. And then, just when I thought all hope was lost, I found an envelope in the mail. No return address. My name on the front, my address. Inside was a check, made out to me, in the amount of ten thousand dollars. Enough to pay the bills and leave me some left over to live on until I found a job. Enough to let me focus on classes. There was no name on the check, just "VRI Inc.," and a post office box address for somewhere in the city. No hint of identity or reason for the check or anything. No mention of repayment, interest, nothing…except a single word, on the notes line: "You." Just those three letters.
If you receive a mysterious check, for enough money to erase all your worries, would you cash it?
I did.
The next month, I received another check, again from VRI Incorporated. It too contained a single word: "belong."
A third check, the next month. This time, two words. Four letters. "To me."
The checks kept coming. The notes stopped. Ten thousand dollars, every month. A girl gets used to that, real quick. It let me pay the bills without going into debt. Let me keep my baby brother in school and Mom's hospice care paid for. How do you turn down what seems like free money, when you're desperate? You don't. I didn't.
And then, after a year, there was a knock on my door. A sleek black limousine sat on the curb in front of my house. A driver stood in front of me, and he spoke six words: "It's time to pay your debt."
Would you have gotten in?
I did.
It turns out $120,000 doesn't come free.

4.5 SMOKIN HOT, ALPHA DELICIOUSNESS STARS!! I LOVED EVERY STEAMY, HEART POUNDING SECOND!!
Now, you might be asking why, if I loved it so much am I only giving this yummy book 4.5 stars instead of 5? Well, I only have one teeny tiny complaint....NO EPILOGUE! I really, really, really would have loved and epilogue to this story! However, I am easily appeased by the FUCKING, SMOKING HOT, and I do mean SMOKING HOT Bonus Scene!
This book was so friggin' hot it was like foreplay! Seriously, if you walk away from reading any of this book and you are not super turned on then you are broken! I mean it!! :)
"Not a word from you, Kyrie." He didn't look at me, his voice retaining quiet intensity. "One word out of you and I'll snap. I'll pull you into the nearest alley and fuck you where you sit. You're flushed and nervous and the most beautiful thing I've ever seen, and you smell like expensive wine and good food and pussy. I'm barely holding onto my restraint right now, so if you want our first time together to have anything like romance to it, then shut it. All right, love?"
See...?? If Valentine Roth doesn't make you swoon simply with words then you are definitely broken!!
This is the story of a very wealthy man who, well sorta, buys his way into this woman's life. Kyrie's life if spiraling out of control, after losing her job, getting evicted from her apartment and wondering how she is going to keep her brother in school and her mom in the facility she is in, she isn't sure what to do next. That is until she receives a ten thousand dollar check in the mail, followed by another every month for a year. Things are going well but Kyrie is too smart not to know that there is going to come a point where she has to pay the piper so to speak. After a year, a man comes to 'collect' Kyrie explaining that she now belongs to the man who has been sending her the checks. Enter Valentine Roth....who has jumped to the front of my book boyfriend list!!
Never, before this moment, had there ever been a kiss that stole my will to pull away, that devoured my capacity for thought, that removed my ability to resist, to feel anything but the kiss.
At this point, the smokin' hotness I was referring to before begins!!
I loved this book and I am super excited to see that Ms. Wilder just released that there will be another book to the story!! It is apparently a standalone as well but I am just hoping it's more, more, more Valentine!!

I'm reading the Bend anthology and loving it!! :)
ReplyDeleteNice, Karina! :)
DeleteThis sounds delightful and I know what you mean sometimes I need that little bit of closure an epilogue can bring. Not always but with a romance especially.
ReplyDeleteRight, Kimba? Sometimes you need that little extra at the end to tide you over until the next book.
DeleteUh, wow ... everything from the cover to the synopsis to your review has me NEEDING to read this! It will be mine.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read anything from Jasinda yet, but Holly's review makes this book sound delicious! :)
DeleteEvery time I read a description or snippet of this book I think, "ooohhh." *laugh* Right now I'm reading Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry. not my usual, but I'm liking it.
ReplyDeleteI've heard really nice things about Pushing the Limits! Thanks for commenting, CarrieMarie. :)
