Gather ‘round, love, because I want you. I want what you have, I want what you don’t have, I want more of what I already have. I want. But if you so much as ask for something in return, go ahead and walk away. Know if you want to play in my world, it’s every man for themselves and the weak become mine. Leeches will be obliterated because I make it my job to destroy them. I protect what’s mine and I take what’s yours…because that’s what I do. I want.
My story will not endear me to you and, frankly, I could care less if it does because I’m in this for the money and nothing else. There’s nothing redeeming about me. I’m a corrupt, money hungry, immoral asshole from Los Angeles. I’m every man’s worst nightmare and every girl’s fantasy.
I’m Spencer Blackwell…And this is the story about how I went from the world’s most coveted guy to the guy no one wanted around and why I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.
Yep! Another one of the Deadly Sins ROCKED!! :)
We met Spencer Blackwell in Vain and yeah, he was kind of a shallow douche, but WOW! We really had no idea how bad and broken he really was! Now, we can chalk it up to poor little rich kid who didn't want to risk daddy cutting him off so he did all of his despicable dirty work, but really, by the time this story begins Spencer's soul is already worn and weary from the shallow pathetic-ness that is his life.
The greed was more powerful than the will to do right.
The first real act of goodness we see is Spencer putting Bridge's needs and feelings above his own. Let me explain, Bridget is preggers and their pathetic shit hole of a father insists that she get rid of it. Because that would be an embarrassment to him to have a pregnant teenage daughter. I know, complete A-Hole!!
Of course he insists Spencer take her to have it done but he can't go through with it when he knows how much Bridge doesn't want to. So they run!
They run to Montana, to a friends family ranch, hoping that they can lay low and their father won't find them, at least until Bridge's eighteenth birthday. The Hunt family is good country folks and they welcome them both with open arms. This is where we see Spencer really start to become the man we will grow to love. Oh yeah, and there is a girl. Cricket is the Hunt's granddaughter and Spencer is instantly enamored with her. Their chemistry is OFF THE CHARTS!! Only one problem, she is taken!
"I'm going to tell you something, but this can only be said once," she began, and took another shaky breath, "I suffer for you," she barely got out. "I want to be near you always. I'm falling in love with you and it's-it's a sweet agony, however, it's still an agony."
There is so much love and growth in this book, you just want to cheer for Spencer, hell for the whole lot of them, at the end of this book. Oh, don't get me wrong, there is a lot of tension and tears before you get there but I promise you will get there.
This is my second of the Deadly Sins and I can honestly tell you I am anxiously awaiting experiencing the rest!!
